It was by no means a classic, but a 1-0 win over Sweden was enough to secure Italy’s passage through to the knockout rounds of Euro 2016.

Inter Milan loanee Eder snatched the late winner in a game bereft of quality throughout, with the Italians putting in another solid defensive display, but without the rapid counter attacks that featured in the win over Belgium.

Sweden have failed to have a shot on target so far in the tournament and they will be more reliant than ever on talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic if they are to squeeze through into the later stages.

There were no real stars, but we’ve scratched our heads and have found a group of players with claims to be Man of The Match.

Eder

Provided the spark of quality that the game desperately needed when he surged past the Swedish defence and fired past Andreas Isaksson.

Giorgio Chiellini

Solid as ever and provided the long throw that resulted in Eder’s goal.

Andrea Barzagli

Played his part in nullifying the albeit limited threat from Sweden and performed well both aerially and in possession.

Andreas Granqvist

Kept the Italian strike force quiet for the majority of the game and provided an aerial presence for his team.

Had a shout for a penalty turned down just before full-time.

Antonio Candreva

Provided a consistent wide threat and helped to protect his defence from Martin Olsson’s forward runs.
