Scotland are set to welcome Benito Floro’s Canada to Easter Road in Edinburgh tonight, with manager Gordon Strachan looking to get his side back to winning ways.
Scotland have won just two games since March 2016, a 1-0 friendly win over Denmark and a 5-1 thumping of Malta.
Since that win over Malta back in September, Strachan’s side have drawn 1-1 with Lithuania and lost 3-0 to both Slovakia and England.
It was confirmed two days ago that Matt Phillips, James McArthur and Grant Hanley have all withdrawn from the latest Scotland squad, with defender Liam Cooper coming in.
After coming out of international retirement for November’s England v Scotland clash, Scott Brown has decided to continue playing with his national side.
Considering it’s a friendly, Gordon Strachan may decide to test some more inexperienced players who got the call-up, though will likely opt for a stronger lineup.
Here’s my predicted XI for tonight’s game in a 4-3-3 formation.
Craig Gordon
The ‘keeper has impressed with club Celtic this season and will likely be chosen to start between the sticks tonight.
Russell Martin
Has been a favourable choice in defence by Strachan in the past. Could slot in at right-back.
Christophe Berra
The Ipswich Town defender’s experience could be valuable in this game whether friendly or not.
Charlie Mulgrew
Has impressed at English Championship side Blackburn Rovers since signing in August. Deserves a start.
Andrew Robertson
Left-back is perhaps the most competitive position in the Scotland team, with Celtic’s Kieran Tierney always seeming like a likely option. Though Robertson will likely start this one to give the Celtic youngster a rest.
Darren Fletcher
The West Brom captain has been a member of the Scotland squad for some time now. Like Berra, his experience can always prove important no matter what the situation.
James Morrison
Could link-up well with West Brom teammate Darren Fletcher in midfield.
John McGinn
The young Hibs midfielder has impressed this season under Neil Lennon and could be set to win his third cap for his national team tonight.
Robert Snodgrass
The West Ham winger is a popular pick for Scotland and will look to turn-up against Canada tonight.
Ryan Fraser
His impressive form for English Premier League side Bournemouth has earned him a call-up by Strachan. Could start out on the left tonight and look to get involved early on.
Leigh Griffiths
The Celtic striker is known for banging in the goals and so he’ll look to carry that form over to his national side.
