England ran out as comfortable winners this evening with a 2-0 win against Lithuania at Wembley.
Gareth Southgate’s men headed into the game as clear favourites and were relatively comprehensive in their display, but will feel as though they should have put the ball in the back of the net on more than two occasions.
Goals in either half from striking pair Jermain Defoe and Jamie Vardy were enough to seal the win and send England three points nearer to qualification for the 2018 World Cup.
Here are our match ratings from the win!
Joe Hart - 5
Hart was unconvincing and looked a bit sloppy.
Kyle Walker - 7
Walker was good down the right yet again and offered a threatening, attacking outlet.
John Stones - 7
Stones made a good goal-line clearance to spare Hart’s blushes, but had little else to do.
Michael Keane - 7
Keane looks at home in an England shirt and was convincing once again.
Ryan Bertrand - 6
Bertrand was somewhat subdued by his high standards and only really came to life in the closing stages.
Eric Dier - 6
Dier was pretty uninvolved. Didn’t do anything badly, nor brilliantly.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain - 5
The Ox struggled to really make his mark on the game and was caught on a few occasions.
Adam Lallana - 7
Lallana just makes everything looks so effortless. He was excellent on the ball and despite drifting in and out of the game at times, showed a lot of quality.
Dele Alli - 6
Dele wasn’t his usual, exuberant self but still contributed with technical quality and movement.
Raheem Sterling - 7
Sterling gave his marker the runaround all evening and looked dangerous throughout.
Jermain Defoe - 7
Defoe took his goal very well and posed a threat to Lithuania’s defenders with his movement.
