England secured a 4-0 win over Malta on Friday night to maintain their lead at the top of the World Cup Qualifying group.

England are currently the 9th best team in Europe, according to the current world rankings, and were able to cruise to an easy victory against Malta.

England are two points clear at the top of the table as it stands, and look well set to qualify for next summer’s World Cup in Russia.

The home side defended valiantly throughout and were able to limit England to few clear-cut opportunities in the first-half.

The opening goal came midway through the second half. Dele Alli worked space in the area and slipped a ball through to Harry Kane, with the forward finishing calmly to put England ahead.

Ryan Bertrand added a second in the 85th minute. His effort from long-range bounced just in front of the keeper and slipped into the bottom corner.

Danny Welbeck came off the bench to add a goal in added time, as he poked in Harry Kane’s cross.

Kane then scored his second of the game as he latched onto a through ball to make it 4-0.
