Gareth Bale has beaten Wales goalscoring record, overtaking Liverpool legend Ian Rush in the process.
The Madrid star scored a hat-trick against China today in a 6-0 win, breaking the record set by Ian Rush. Bale took his total to 29 goals for his country, scoring his first goals for Wales since November 2016.
Bale’s hat-trick was also the first one for Wales since Robert Earnshaw netted three times against Scotland back in 2004.
It took Bale 69 games to top Rush’s goalscoring record, whilst it only took the former Liverpool striker 66 games to reach his total.
Bale was also the first Wales player to score at an international tournament since 1958 when he opened the scoring against Slovakia at Euro 2016. Wales would go on to reach the Semi Finals before being dumped out by the eventual winners of the tournament, Portugal.
Bale will not be representing his country at the World Cup in Russia however, as Wales failed to get out of their qualifying group.
