Group H seems to be one of the few groups in this summer’s World Cup that doesn’t include a clear favourite, which could make it the most interesting.
The front-runners for the top spot in Group H are likely to be Colombia and Poland, two sides which are well rounded.
As for Japan and Senegal, the likelihood is that they may struggle against Colombia and Poland due to not having quality in enough positions.
However, those two sides will look towards their big game players such as Sadio Mane for Senegal and Shinji Kagawa and Shinji Okazaki for Japan, who could just produce a piece of brilliance to strengthen their team’s chances of progressing out of the group.
Here’s how I predict Group H panning out.
Colombia 0-0 Japan (19th June-2pm)
Despite Colombia having a better squad on paper than their opposition, they do come into the tournament in unimpressive form. Two 0-0 draws previous to their World Cup opener. More of the same? Perhaps it may take a game or two to get into their stride in this group.
Poland 4-1 Senegal (19th June- 5pm)
Unlike Colombia, Poland have had no problem finding the net in friendlies leading up to the tournament scoring five goals in two games. With likes of Robert Lewandowski in search of the golden boot, I expect Poland to come out comfortable winners in their World Cup opener.
Japan 2-1 Senegal (24th June- 5pm)
I predict this game to be extremely close, however, I feel Japan may pinch it. Despite Sadio Mane’s excellence this season, I don’t believe he will be able to replicate that for his country without the quality at the other end of the field.
Poland 2-2 Colombia (24th June-8pm)
This is, without doubt, the standout fixture in Group H and not many people would want to predict the outcome. I believe there will be goals in this game due to the attacking quality on display however, I think the two teams will balance each other out.
Senegal 1-3 Colombia (28th June-4pm)
In my opinion, this will be the game that marks the end of Senegal’s World Cup journey. Likewise, with Japan, I believe that Colombia will have too much quality in which the Senegal defence will not be able to handle.
Japan 0-1 Poland (28th June-4pm)
Knowing a win will be enough to top the group, I believe Poland will get a routine victory over the Japanese.
