From the outset, the Three Lions were the dominant side and broke the deadlock after eight minutes. John Stones got free in the area and bolted a header into the bottom, left corner.

Gareth Southgate’s side were awarded a penalty, 14 minutes later. Harry Kane stepped up and struck into the top, right corner.

Jesse Lingard was next on the score-sheet, after 36 minutes. The midfielder combined with Raheem Sterling before finessing an effort into the top, right corner.

Four minutes later, Stones secure a brace. The central defender scrambled a header into the net from a clever set-piece.

England were given another spot-kick, after 45+1 minutes. Kane took it and sealed a brace.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker sealed a hat-trick, after 62 minutes. The 24-year-old became the first England player since Gary Lineker to score a World Cup hat-trick.
