England went into today’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Bulgaria as clear favourites, as they continue their push to secure qualification for next years tournament.
The Three Lions started shakily, but eventually grew into the game, starting to dominate the game in terms of possession. There were few clear cut chances in the first quarter of the game, as both teams were adjusting to the game. The only half chances came through a shot from Bulgaria’s Wanderson and Jordan Henderson.
England did have the ball in the net just shy of the 20th minute, but Kane was just caught offside. England continued to dominate, before a mistake in the Bulgarian defence gifted England the opener, with Harry Kane slotting the ball home. There was little action before the half time whistle went.
It was a much improved second half performance, when the flood gates opened, and England started scoring to score goals for fun.
England ran out 4-0 winners at Wembley, with a Harry Kane hat trick and a Sterling goal the difference between the two sides.
Jordan Pickford: 8
Was called into action little during the game, and did his job well. Made some good saves to keep England ahead.
Kieran Trippier: 5
Did his job well, and looked lively in the attack. Solid in defence at times.
Michael Keane: 3
Looked very shaky today, and didn’t show his best today. Expected much better.
Harry Maguire: 4
Not his best performance today. But was the best out of the two centre-halves. Overall a relatively solid performance.
Danny Rose: 6
Looked very good going forward, but wasn’t very convincing at times in the defensive quarter. Overall a decent performance from Rose.
Declan Rice: 4
Wasn’t the most convincing of performances from Rice, but did the job in the midfield, in what was a relatively easy game for Rice.
Jordan Henderson: 4
Didn’t contribute much in the game, but did the job that was required. Definitely seen better from Henderson.
Ross Barkley: 6
Linked up well with the England midfield, and looked good going forward.
Raheem Sterling: 9
Set up the opener for Kane, and caused real havoc for the Bulgarian backline, topped off with a goal.
Harry Kane: 10
Was the star performer today, not only scored a hat trick but created multiple chances for his teammates.
Marcus Rashford: 6
Didn’t show his best today, wasn’t really in the game at parts. Definitely not his best performance. Rashford did improve in the second half, however.
Mason Mount: 5
Looked lively after he came off the bench. Made some good runs and impressed on his Three Lions debut
Jadon Sancho: 4
Didn’t really have an impact since his arrival on the pitch. However, he did look lively at some points in his appearance from the bench.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: 4
Didn’t really have an impact, but did look good in midfield and linked up well at times.
